The mighty sun is yet a friend to us. I like to say we lie at a magnanimous locale in this terribly anti-social hierarchy of bodies making our solar system. Earth is hurtling along at a diplomatic 93 million miles from the solar corona, and nicely, at this distance (shielded by a humungeous magnet) there can be life. Thus we have come to be here today. Thank you for taking a moment to be fascinated. I am.
Mankind's oldest and longest continual relationship has been that which we feel we have with our sun. Even using the possessive "our" seems proper in the cultural context. While the physical image of Earth with a long skinny leash around big old Sun is a chuckle now, in the past, these anthropomorphic concepts of the cosmos are what gods were made of.
It can still be the time of enlightenment. The power is showering down upon us.
